The University of Akron’s leadership in community outreach and regional economic development, under the direction of President Luis Proenza, is widely recognized both throughout the State of Ohio and nationally. The Medina County University Center (MCUC), which was developed through a unique partnership with leaders and citizens of Medina County, represents an innovative extension of those efforts.
Upon opening in January 2008, the MCUC became the first physical facility in the County devoted solely to higher education. The 33,000 Sq. Ft., three-story structure enables local residents and businesses to take advantage of standard college courses and programs as well as professional development workshops and workforce training opportunities close to home.
Although this is a University of Akron facility, the MCUC is not a branch campus but something more dynamic and independent. Faculty from many universities will teach here, and the selection of programs and courses will continue to be driven by local needs.
